The Thirukkural Lifestyle Program course teaches how you going to use the Thirukkural as a manual and guide for your life to be a success.
The Thirukkural teaches a value system. It teaches a Lifestyle. In Tamil this value system and lifestyle philosophy is called Samanam. Samanam is Tamil Humanism.
This manual has absolute truths, values, ethics and principles. We all aspire for those principles, but we can never achieve it consistently in full because we are human. We make mistakes. To err is human. That’s okay because we have a vision, to aspire for to make our lives better. Our lives orbit around the Value system as we constantly strive to achieve those principles to the best of our ability and capacity.
To get a clearer picture of what a manual is, take for example a cell phone. When a cell phone is manufactured it comes with a manual of how it should be operated. It’s a list of instructions of how to switch it on and off and how to charge the phone and what are the accessories that come with the phone and how to connect them to the phone. It has a list of Do’s and Don’ts.
Thirukkural is a book of life to teach the way of life.
To practice the Thirukkural Lifestyle, the Thirukkural must be read every day for 30 minutes. Daily reading and meditation for 30 minutes is necessary. We need to get into a culture of family reading. It is the responsibility of all of us to read the Thirukkural daily.
The manual of the creation is to be used just like the flight safety manual. The Thirukkural manual cannot be used like a cell phone manual which is generally once off. The Thirukkural manual must the used like the flight safety manuals which is done on every flight. This means at the start of every day the Thirukkural must read.
To get a clearer picture of the repetition of the verses of the Thirukkural, let’s take for example the Safety Flight Manuals. The safety flight manual is repeated to an aeroplane full of passengers every time on the runaway.
Everyone who took a plane will experience this. The plane moves to the runaway and park still. The flight attendant explains the safety rules, shows the emergency exits, how to fasten the seat belts, how to use the oxygen masks, how to use the life jackets. They do this every time the plane takes off without fail. Even if you know the instructions they will still repeat or else the plane will not take off. Although the pilot can fly the plane alone, he still has a copilot. The Thirukkural therefore emphasises a person to have a life partner. Even though the sky is clear and the experienced pilot sees there are no planes on the runaway or in the sky he will not move the plane until he gets a clearance from the Flight Controllers in the tower. The Thirukkural emphasises us having an Ethics Teacher and in Tamil Culture Valluvar is the ethics teacher. Living guides are Life coaches as well as psychologists who are like the Flight Controllers, and they give a second opinion of your actions. If the flight manuals give so much detail on how to fly the plane, and repeating the safety instructions to the frequent passengers, consider how much attention we give to our bodies which is more complicated than an aeroplane.
Therefore reading, meditation and repeating the verses of the Thirukkural is recommended to be practising the Thirukkural Lifestyle.
