The practice of the teachings of Tamil Humanism to ensure personal, family, community and environmental development

Mission Statement

The purpose is to restore the humanity in the culturally, socially and economically disadvantaged sections of society by promoting the humanist principles. This is achieved by:

• Promoting Ethical Conduct

• Promoting Tamil Humanism

• Distributing Tamil Humanist books

We are establishing 4 types of Family Reading Circles:

1. Couple’s Reading Circle

2. Single Parent Reading Circle

3. Children’s Reading Circle

4. Youth Reading Circle

A Reading Champion leads each reading circle. 

Reading Circle Objective

The objective of the Reading Circle is to create awareness, commitment and practice of secular ethics and values systems.

Purpose of Value Systems

The purpose of values systems is to create a meaningful life in this world by an Active Citizen. The outcome of Values Systems is to create Results, Success, Happiness and Joy for you.

Books to Read

You can use any book on Moral, Values and Ethics of your choice. Should you not have a book of ethics you can use the book called ‘Thirukkural’ or ‘Value System’. These are universal values.

You can further list your personal values and integrate them into the ‘Value System’.

How to Find Info on Value Systems

You can use Google on the internet or use personal development and self-improvement books or any other book that promotes value systems of your choice.

Social Benefits of Reading Circles

1. It promotes Active Citizenry. For example, the knowledge of Cleanliness learnt as a value is then transformed into practice by actually participating in cleaning our environment.

2. It brings children, youth and parents closer together as they will be allocating time to communicate to each other in a structured way.

Institution of Focus

The focus is on transformation of the mind-set in the institution of the Family.

Example of How to Achieve This Objective

E.g.: Positive thinking:

1. Awareness of the value of thinking positive thoughts and accepting it as a value.

2. Decision on making a commitment to it as a personal value.

3. Practice speaking positive words.

Why is Reading Circles Necessary?

The goal of the Reading Circles is to encourage value systems that will promote personal development and self-improvement.

Impact of Value Systems

Value Systems is the foundation of a person and core of an organisation. It has an impact on how you use the education you learnt at school, university or the trade skills you acquired at college. It impacts your behaviour at work, in the family and in the community. It helps people make changes in their lives by raising their standards, removing their limiting beliefs and developing life skills.

Membership of Reading Circles

All members of a family, the parents and the children names are written in the form to create a Family Reading Circle.

Just as you join a gym for physical health, join a Reading Circle for positive Mental Health. Your membership card is a reminder of your commitment to Family Reading of Value Systems.

Select the type of reading circles you participating in for example, Youth Reading Circle or Children’s Reading Circle.

Use the reading circles value achievement tracker to report on progress.

Fees

You pay via a debit order a membership fee of R100 per person in your family.

You may also make a donation of your choice.

GRADUATION AWARDS:

Certificate for Primary Course

A certificate is issued upon completion of the Ethical Literacy Program.

A certificate is issued upon completion of the 108 Principles of the Value System. In 108 weeks an advanced in-depth understanding and practice of the Value System is achieved. A badge is issued upon completion of each of the 108 principles. A Golden Shawl with 108 badges stitched on it is given. The Golden Shawl(for Life Partners, Parents with children) are for those who can practice all 108 principles in their life.

Graduation ceremonies will be held on 15 January (Thiruvalluvar Day).

Certificate for Advanced Course

A certificate is issued for the Advanced Course on the Thirukkural Program.

If you want to get more involved in the efforts to promote Tamil Humanism, here are some ways to get you started:

1. Educate yourself: Learn more about Tamil Humanism. Read the books. Like our Facebook page. Check out our website www.tamilhumanism.com.

2. Share what you learn. Speak to your friends, family and colleagues at work. Use your watsapp, Facebook, twitter, Facebook page, website or blogspot to spreading the awareness of Tamil Humanism.

3. Further awareness: Invite a Tamil Humanist volunteer to come talk to your book club, business group, ladies tea club, social club or any other organization you belong to. You may talk to them yourself once you learnt enough about Tamil humanism.

4. Get involved: Form a local support group in your area. Contact us to find out how to be actively involved.

5. Host an event: You can have as much fun with hosting an event as you want to by hosting tea parties, coffee shop evenings, cultural music nights, and so much more your imagination allows. Find out your talents and interest and use them to create awareness of Tamil Humanism.

6. Be a conscientious consumer: Buy products from companies that support Tamil humanism. See the list of businesses that support Tamil Humanism:

7. Support any project that works to uplift the most vulnerable in our society. You may want to teach your support groups in your area valuable skills and information.

What does our Ngo need?

1. Your support for the project where you can participate in a Reading Circle and to be a Reading Champion.

2. Help us to research, edit, translate and print Value System books.

Your company or organization can sponsor your employees to attend the Life Coaching Program. The money raised from this sponsorship will be used for the printing of books. In this way your company will benefit as well as the money raised will print and distribute books which will further benefit the community. Employees will be transformed to working harder and being more dedicated and committed to the employer. It’s a win-win situation.

Mobilise The Entire Nation Behind A ‘Massive Ethics Reading Campaign’

Are you a student at a university and are committed to making your life better and meaningful, then this project is for you. To develop your entrepreneur skills and enrich your learning’s you need to share that knowledge with others. By doing so that knowledge becomes a part of you, giving you a better quality of life. It requires commitment of simply doing this in a routine way.

This is a university student’s volunteer program. To be eligible to take part in this project you must be a registered student at any university. You must also have the commitment to want a better life for yourself first. You should also have the love for reading books and understanding its meaning. Reading the word means reading books and reading the world means understanding the world by the words you read.

A better quality of life can only be experience through knowledge and understanding and practicing that knowledge. The quickest way to gain knowledge is through sharing that knowledge to others by reading.

This project requires you to have commitment to a routine, dedication of your time and the ability to work in the project without you being supervised and controlled. You are a leader and by taking part in this project you will experience a better quality life and you will benefit others.

The project requires students to establish Youth Reading Circles on all university campuses and mobilise the entire nation behind a ‘massive reading campaign’ of the Value System. You will be a Reading Champion.
