MEDITATION

Since the dawn of human civilization, people on the path of spirituality have used meditation. Meditation is natural and everyone can do it.

There are many benefits of meditation. The practice of meditation leads us to a state of relaxation, to slow down, to remain calm and to calm the conscious mind. It will help you learn to relax your body and your mind.  It dissolves the unconscious imagery and conscious imagery. It improves your physical health. Your mental and emotional control increases as you maintain a calm outlook.

We need to choose a place where we will not be disturbed and sit in a position that will be comfortable. We begin first on concentration by focusing our attention towards a single point: SPACE. It is a continuous concentration on the object of SPACE without disruption of other thoughts. The uninterrupted flow of one’s focus is meditation. That state of mind, SPACE, exists inside each of us.

Chidambaram Ragasiyam Meditation

The following is a self-guided way to mediate:

I close my eyes. I sit comfortably and relaxed.

I’m doing this meditation so that I can keep my attention on the clear mind, on neutral feelings, on relaxed muscles for 5 minutes. A clear mind is like the vast Space.

I draw an imaginary circle around me. This circle forms a protective shield.

I allow my mind to hear the sounds of nature, people and objects and even smell and sensation. I allow my mind to drift on the different sounds. They come from outside this circle. I just watch them.

Outside this circle all negativity remains. Negative thoughts and negative feelings remain outside this circle as they arise from images that come from outside. It does not affect me and my attention wanders away from those objects.

I bring my attention to within the circle. In this circle I am free. There is nothing I need to do. There is no where I need to go. There is no one I need to please. In the circle it is filled with Peace and Love.

I bring my attention to my body. I watch the muscles relax.

I watch the tension and tightness of the muscles dissolve away.

All the muscles and nerves in my body are relaxed. My toes are relaxed and calves, thighs lower back, back, shoulder, neck, back of the head, forehead, eye lids, eyes, checks, chin, throat, chest and stomach muscles are all relaxed.

I bring my attention to the region of my heart and stomach. I watch my feelings.

I watch the inner Space of my heart. I bring my attention to neutral feelings. The negative emotions in my heart subside and dissolve away. I watch the feelings become neutral.

I bring my attention to my breathing. I watch the breathing.

As I breathe and the air fills up my lungs and stomach, my attention goes to my navel. As I breathe out the sensation of relaxation moves from the navel, chest, shoulders, neck, nose, eyelids, forehead, the back of the shoulders and down all over the body. In this way I watch 8 breaths.

I bring my attention to my mind. I watch the mind.

I watch the inner Space of my mind. I see all the thoughts and images arising in the mind. I just watch them. Then I move my attention to the clear mind that surrounds those thoughts and images. The clear mind is vast like Space. Each time a thought or feeling arises that captures the attention, I move it away from that thought back to the clear Space. I watch the thoughts dissolve away in the inner Space.

I watch the clear empty inner Space of the mind for 1 minute.

I bring my attention back to my senses and my body.

I dedicate the positive energy to the health and happiness of both myself and others.

I open my eyes feeling relaxed, refreshed and alert.
